1. Let’s talk about the Republic of Belarus. What can you tell me about our Motherland?
10 фактов про Беларусь (записывали в тетрадь)
The official name of our country is the Republic of Belarus.
Belarus is situated in the centre of Europe.
The capital is the city Minsk.
Belarus is made up of six regions called oblast with the major cities of Brest, Grodno, Gomel, Mogilev and Vitebsk.
The official languages in our country are Russian and Belarussian, but in some parts of the country people can speak Polish and Ukrainian languages.
Our country has a lot of rivers and lakes. As the result, Belarus has often called as the blue-eyed country.
Because of numerous forests, swamps and grasslands our country has been included into the list of countries called “the lungs of Europe.”
The most widely known symbols of the Republic are a bison, a stork and a cornflower.
Today Belarus is becoming more and more popular for tourists. Thousands of people from Belarus and from abroad visit Mir and Nesvizh castles.

2. What famous Belarusian people do you know?
There are a lot of famous people among Belarusians: writers and poets, politicians and cosmonauts, artists and sportsmen. They are historic figures and our contemporaries. I would like to mention the names of Kolas and Kupala, Masherov and Gromyko, Domrachova and Mirny.

3.What questions about Belarus do you expect to hear from a British teenager?
1. Where is Belarus situated?
2. What city is the capital?
3. Do people of Belarus speak Belarusian?
4. What places are worth seeing in Belarus?
4. What Belarusian sights would you advise a foreigner to visit?
If I were you I would visit the National Library of Belarus, Mir and Nesvizh castles and Lake Naroch. I would recommend to visit such old castles as Lida castle, Galshany castle and Navagradak castle to learn about Belarussian history.

5. You are to write a short article about Belarusian people for a foreign newspaper. How would you describe our people?

Our people are talentedhard-working, patient and peaceful.

Belarus has a lot of interesting places.
First, there are landmarks from the World Heritage List: Belovezhskaya Pushcha, the Struve Arc, Mir and Nesvizh castles.
Then there are places connected with the names of world famous people Kazimir Malevich, Ilya Repin, Zhores Alferov.
Braslav Lakes and Belarusian Polesye are really wonderful.
Old town Turov, Zaslavl, Polotsk, and villages Dudutki and Strotchitsy are worth visiting. These places are a great way to learn about Belarusian everyday life and history
To sum it up, Belarusian people are hospitable and welcoming.
I hope tourism in Belarus will develop.

2.   Are the symbols of Belarus known to foreigners? Why or why not?
I am not sure, but I suppose they know about its floral and animal symbols: the bison, the stork and the cornflower.
These wildlife symbols of Belarus are known all over the world.
3.    What questions will you ask a journalist from the BelTA News Agency?
1. When was the Agency established?
2. Is it difficult to deliver news in real time?
3. Is your news available in foreign languages?
4. What foreign languages do you speak?
4. What advice will you give to people who want to visit Belarus?
I would advise to visit Grodno and Brest regions first of all. Belovezhskaya Pushcha where you can see a lot of rare species of animals and birds, the famous Mir castle and the city of Grodno with its unique architecture are really worth visiting.

(Для Никиты, Алены и Юры - I advise to visit Grodno and Brest regions. Belavezhskaya Pushcha, Mir castle and the city of Grodno are really worth visiting.)

5. They say that the Belarusian language is losing its popularity. What do you think about it?

Russian and Belarusian are two official languages, but very few people speak Belarusian in their day-to-day lives. This is the reality, but it doesn’t mean that the language is losing its popularity. As there are practically no schools or universities that teach in Belarusian, independent courses are conducted across Belarus. People want to know their language to be proud of who they are.

(Для Никиты, Алены и Юры - I don’t agree that the language is losing its popularity. People want to know their language. A lot of people in Belarus speak Belarusian.)
